Historical North, Rift Valley Lakes and Omo Valley Tribes      21 days
History, Culture, Wild Nature and Tribes

This trip around Ethiopia is one of the most complete in our catalogue because it comprises the northern part of Ethiopia, where you can discover the huge cultural, religious and monumental legacy of the country visiting its old historical sites, as well as the southern part of the country where you will meet a countless number of different ethnic groups, not mentioning the astonishing nature that will be the scenery of your unforgettable adventure. After a short flight to Bahir Dar, the massive and magnificent Blue Nile River falls and its watered areas tell you that Ethiopia is not such a dry country. The boat trip on Lake Tana and its isolated islands, house of more than 20 monasteries decorated with astonishing fresco paintings, will expose you to meet the ancestral way of life and fishing of this area.

Not far away from here, the city of Gonder will show you its imperial past as the capital of the Gonderian kingdom opening the doors of its medieval castles. We will make a cultural pause to breath fresh air and gaze at the beautiful scenery of the roof of Ethiopia, the Simien Mountains. An easy hill walking excursion will bring you nearer to its natural mysteries and its endemic inhabitants, the Gelada Baboons and Walya Ibexes.

After a drive through a breathtaking scenery road, we will reach Axum, an authentic Tigrian village known as the cradle of Christianity in Ethiopia and, according to the legend, shelter of the Arch of the Covenant. The most emblematic site will be discovered at the end of this north trip: Lalibela. Majestically situated on the Lasta Mountains, it will open us the doors of its rock hewn churches and will make us understand why it should be considered as the eight world wonder.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The flight to Addis will take us to a completely different and new adventure in the southern part of Ethiopia. During our four wheel drives we will be constantly accompanied by a beautiful scenery, different cultures and colorful markets. The first few days we will meet the Great Rift Valley lakes inhabited by crocodiles, hippos and hundreds of birds. The tribal villages are further south, in the Omo Valley. Tribes with ancestral ways of life will open the door of their villages to meet them and admire the beauty of their esthetic bodies: Karo, Banna, Dassenech, Tsemay, Hamer and Mursi are the tribes we will meet. However, they are not the only people we will encounter in this trip, also the Dorze people on our way to Arba Minch, the Konso people, the Ari villages around Jinka, the Borena people in Yabelo and the Oromo, the guardians of coffee. los arpados inter

Before driving back to Addis, we will ascend to the Bale Mountains National Park to gaze at the high steep peaks interrupted by streams and waterfalls and scattered by forests inhabited by endemic animals of Ethiopia such as the Mountain Nyala, the Ethiopian wolf, the Menelik Bushbuck and other mammals, such as the Bale monkey, the Columbus monkey, the Velvet monkey. The bird life in Bale Mountains is rewarding for birders. The drive back to the capital passes through small villages of the Oromo people and scenic mountains. We will enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner with music and dancing performance as goodbye end of the trip.
